On the way back to The Netherlands

Description

The photo of this week is from Rámon van Raaij. The following is the touching story that he shared with us about this picture:

The picture in question was captured in Luxembourg, specifically Berdorf – Bois et Fermes. It was taken on Tuesday, July 13th, 2021 at 10:12 AM CEST.

I was there with a friend of mine, we were both busy parents and this was about in the middle of the corona pandemic, and for a brief moment, we could travel etc. So we did, we went for a week to Vianden and walked in nature. On the last day, there was heavy rain in Europe, and we literally stayed ahead of the “flood” while traveling back home to the Netherlands. When we reached Maastricht, already roads were closed and thanks to Waze we were able to find a route home. When we reached home, we saw the devastation in Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany caused by the water on Television and also in the following days, many villages, cities, valleys etc. we passed while driving back home had been flooded. People lost their homes, people died. If we had left Vianden just a few hours later, we would have had to stay for a couple more days and probably would have been caught in the flood ourselves.
