Falling Water

Water falling into big rocks and splashing into a river.

Description

In the words of photographer Javier Casares:

This is an interesting place… this is an artificial waterfall :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s in a town called Dúrcal (Granada, Spain) and its a waterfall created to return some water from the river (I’ll explain later).
And, it’s easy to get there, with this route from the town: https://www.durcal.net/rutas/mondarinos-fuga/

There is a river in this town from Sierra Nevada (one of the most important mountains in Spain) and this rivers gets the water from the snow in that mountain.

Some kilometers away, there is a man-made detour to get water to the hydroelectric energy central, and then, the water was so low to get to the town to drink, they created another detour to get the water return to the upper-river.

And, in that moment, the river was so low, that the waterfall was needed, and that is when you arrive to that place.

Also, you can continue more into the river and arrive to “Los Bolos”, with the full “Ruta de los Bolos“.

Until the pandemic that place was not very visited, only for people from the town, and from the region, but when the pandemic arrived, it was a “near” place to visit (one of the limitations at that moment) and a lot of people came there since 2020 every summer.

Also, the water is so cold, i tried in April one time and I only cross the river one not get in the water more time because it was like at 5ºC-10ºC. In summer (from May to August) people goes there because is so cool, and water is perfect for refreshing.
